Abstract
This study was undertaken to define whether or not prostaglandin has any role in the genesis of "post-reperfusion syndrome" of orthotopic liver transplantation in grafted dogs. Postreperfusion syndrome developed in all the dogs despite the
preventive
measures against the possible predisposing conditions. There was no significant difference in the level of prostaglandin pre- and post-reperfusion in the portal and hepatic venous blood, rendering the validity of the hypothesis that
post-reperfusion
syndrome is the consequence of influx of prostaglandin accumulated in the portal system during anheptic phase or release from the grafted liver immediately after reperfusion untenable.
